Chassis Confusion – Frequently Asked Questions

With all of the changes to steamship lines and chassis provision, there is understandably a lot of confusion. Many steamship lines no longer provide chassis to customers, and as a result, Jetco supplies chassis from our fleet or pool. The cost of this service continues to increase, and our current chassis-usage fee is $20 per day, as of January 1, 2012. This fee covers standard 20′ and 40′ chassis, but does not cover specialty units such as tri-axel chassis.

NSCSA SS LINES will no longer provide chassis with their shipments, imports or exports.

To keep you up-to-date, we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions:

1. In the Houston area, which steamship lines do not provide chassis?
The list rapidly changes. Please call 713.676.1111 and ask for one of our Intermodal Specialists for the most current list. In most cases, you can expect a chassis charge for containers provided by these steamship lines.

2. Is there any free time included for the chassis?
No. Chassis charges apply from the day we out-gate the container until the day we return it. This includes weekends and holidays.

3. Do Jetco quotes include the chassis fee?
No, unless clearly stated to the contrary. We cannot include the chassis cost in our rate because we do not know how long you will have the chassis before returning the unit. The chassis cost is based on the number of days that you have the unit under your control.

4. Where can I find Jetco’s Terms and Conditions relating to chassis charges, cargo liability, free time and other important items?
